How Mentoring helps our youth:

Have fun

My mentee is starting to open up about how lonely and rejected she feels by those around her. She feels she is different and she feels like she is un-liked for it. I bought her a book about how being different is a gift and plan to spend the next few weeks writing special things I notice about her in the pages of the book and give it to her when we have our renewal in September.

My child loves his mentor. I have never seen my son so happy. This match could not have been a better match. His mentor is helping my son to learn to ride a bike!

We feel like we must have gotten the Best mentor there is!
The program has seriously exceeded my expectations and best of all it has been exactly the right thing for my child. I actually can't imagine what it would be like if I wasn't able to say, "Bev is coming on Tuesday". It's a REAL positive in her life. It's really meeting a need for my child right now. I'm so glad we joined. Someone even said to me, "well that's for needy kids isn't it?", and I said "no, it's for any kid." And I refused to let that statement be in the way of an awesome thing for my daughter! Thanks for standing up with us!

Why support youth Mentoring?

The Youth Services Annual Auction supports youth like Sara (name changed to protect identity), who a mentor reported, struggled with feeling unsure of her future after high school and what she wanted to do in life. She updated us “that after months of discussions, my mentee has chosen to follow the military career path. She contacted a local recruiter who helped her complete all the necessary paperwork. She also took the military entrance exam (ASVAB) and scored high enough for her to choose a variety of career paths. As an extra bonus I’ve noticed she has more motivation to focus on school and complete all her assignments, which has resulted in her achieving higher grades than in the previous year. This is a prime example that shows how much mentoring can benefit a young individual by providing them with clarity, guidance, and support.”

Last year’s event was a tremendous success, raising $6500 for Kittitas County Youth mentoring, which “Research confirms that quality mentoring relationships have powerful positive effects on young people in a variety of personal, academic, and professional situations. Ultimately, mentoring connects a young person to personal growth and development, and social and economic opportunity. Yet one in three young people will grow up without this critical asset.” -MENTOR, National Mentoring Partnership.

We hope you will join us in supporting our cause!
